Welcome back...

Regrettably, I have not been able to update this blog for a while due to a slight technical hitch, but welcome back to Marr anyway!

The Carnegie Medal I blogged about before the summer was won by the Patrick Ness book, "Monsters of Men". I'll try to get a few copies in the library soon.

You should also check out the new Marr College Maths Blog from the link on the right of the page.

New study guides

I hope everyone enjoyed / is enjoying their time off. The next time you come in to the library, please have a look at the new display of study guides. These cover a wide range of subjects at both Standard and Higher grade. I've also added a lot of new fiction in case you need something to help you relax!

Free ebooks!

I've just added a new site to the Useful Links page. Project Gutenberg provides access to a huge selection of classic ebooks, completely free of charge. Files are available that can be used on your PC, iPhone/iPod/iPad, Android mobile, Sony Reader or Kindle. Have you always fancied reading the original Dracula by Bram Stoker, or Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen? Now's your chance!

Run to Read!

World Book Day (3rd March 2011) saw the launch of a new campaign to raise money for the library at Marr College. Spearheaded by Mr Carey and local resident (and Marr College parent) Dr Hazel McFarlane, "Run to Read" aims in the first instance to replace our collection of VHS tapes with brand new DVDs! Dr McFarlane intends to run 2 marathons to raise money for this, so if you would like to support her please pop in to the library and speak to Mr Carey.

New books!

Over the last week or so I have been putting lots of new books on the catalogue - have a look on the "New Books" display for the very latest. These include the brand new edition of the Twilight saga (as requested by a keen reader through this website) but these always fly off the shelves so get a move on!

Holocaust Memorial Day 2011

Holocaust Memorial Day Logo (black on white)
The 27th January is an international day of remembrance for victims of the Holocaust perpetrated by the Nazis in WW2, as well as subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur. Marr College will be commemorating HMD 2011, and the library will have a display of literature relevant to the day. Why not pick up one of these stories or factual books to learn more about what happened?
